Development on the next "The Fast and the Furious" film is further along than anyone anticipated. In fact, it has sped past entry number 5 and right through 6.

Earlier today, Vin Diesel took to his insanely popular Facebook page to offer an update on the street racing franchise. Rather than one film being in works, there could be a second. "If 2009's 'Fast and Furious' was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3," wrote Diesel to kick off his post.

"I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before... it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to," he continued. "Excited about the sexy locations the filming of this sag...a would take us... this novel like story, that has twists and unexpected turns that is authentic, truthful and challenging to the characters."

Universal has yet to make any comments about Fast & Furious 5 and 6 but it would appear the engines are beginning to rev up.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., July 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. premiere of Vin Diesel's original short film "Los Bandoleros" is set to coincide with the DVD release of his blockbuster "Fast & Furious."

Universal Studios Home Entertainment said "Los Bandoleros" will be included on the Blu-ray and DVD release of "Fast & Furious" July 28.

"The (short) film tells the intriguing back story about the characters and events leading up to the explosive oil truck heist in 'Fast & Furious,'" Universal said in a news release.

"Bandoleros" features "Fast & Furious" cast members Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tego Calderon, Don Omar and Sung Kang.

Diesel, Kang, John Ortiz, Laz Alonso and director Justin Lin are slated to attend the short film's premiere Thursday at California's Universal CityWalk, Universal said.

A fifth 'Fast and Furious' film on the way?

There's still plenty of mileage left for another "The Fast and the Furious" sequel, according to its star, Paul Walker.

"Vin and I will be coming back, we're making a fifth one, and we're going to Brazil," Walker revealed in an interview with MYfm on Friday morning.

Walker is currently riding high at the box office after reprising his role as FBI Agent Brian O'Conner in "Fast & Furious", the fourth installment in the hit franchise, which raked in $72.5 million at the U.S. box office last weekend.

The 35-year-old actor also admitted it was the fans of the action franchise that encouraged him to get back on board for the fourth movie.

"Vin didn't do the second one, and fans would always ask me, 'Why didn't Vin do the second one?' I didn't really have an answer for them," Walker told MYfm host Valentine.

"And then I didn't do the third one. And guys would come up to me on the street and be like, 'Hey, why weren't you in the third one?' And when they ask the question, it's kinda like they got that look…saying, ‘Don't tell us you're too good for us now'."

"When they started talking about making the fourth one, I was like, man, I don't really have a choice now, because if I don't do it I know I'm gonna be pissing people off, because this is the opportunity to come back and make the first true sequel."

Universal, the studio behind the last four movies confirmed to E! News that a fifth installment is indeed the works, though no further details have been released.
